School aims and ethos

We believe that all children should be enabled to reach their full potential. We value children’s individuality and diversity and celebrate success in all areas. At Morley, we develop children’s intellectual, physical, emotional & social capabilities through a broad & balanced curriculum and through a range of extra curricular activities, including a strong commitment to the creative arts and active physical education. Whenever we can, we use a “hands on” approach to make learning come alive for the children. We want children to make the most of their lives and the opportunities presented by the 21st Century and we prepare them to do so by supporting them to:

  • learn how to learn, using different styles and approaches.
  • be able to think and work independently and collaboratively.
  • be self-motivated, with enquiring minds, and be able to draw their own conclusions from their experiences.
  • have a creative and imaginative approach to problem solving.
  • have a positive self image and have the confidence to “have a go” and learn from their mistakes as well as their successes.

In addition to fulfilling their individual potential, we also develop children’s understanding of community. We expect mutual respect between all members of the school community and promote positive behaviour in all aspects of school life – particularly through child to child approaches such as the anti-bullying council and the buddy system. We encourage children to:

  • be caring people, aware of and sensitive to the needs of others, recognising similarities, and appreciating differences.
  • develop an understanding of rights and responsibilities.
  • explore and enjoy the diversity of cultures from all around the world.
  • understand and be ready to take a share in responsibility for the wider environment.

In all of this, we work actively in partnership with parents, carers and the wider community. Ultimately, we seek to ensure that our children are well equipped to go on to secondary education with confidence and eventually to take their place as world citizens.
